Launch of the Women in Action project
The NGO PIFEVA launched the “Women in Action” project on February 24, 2024 in Mwenga center in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in order to increase the empowerment and adaptation to climate change of young girls and vulnerable women while contributing to forest conservation, in particular by integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) approaches, in accordance with the Standard developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
This project is at the intersection of issues of gender equality and community resilience in the face of climate change, drawing on the expertise of numerous partners in the provinces of North and South Kivu.
The project takes a holistic rights-based approach, aiming to improve women's food security, incomes and living conditions while strengthening their land and environmental rights. Women are at the heart of this transformation process, thus strengthening their resilience in the face of economic, climate and security crises.
This is achieved by:
Increased adoption of Nature-Based Solutions for adaptation to climate change
Improved control by women of the resources necessary for the growth of their income-generating activities
Increased influence on communities and decision-makers to take climate and biodiversity issues into account
Project coordination
