Our history

PIFEVA, Pillar for Active Vulnerable Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo

A Congolese NGO supporting women and communities against poverty and injustice created on June 4, 2004 in Bukavu in a context characterized by repeated wars, widespread poverty, malnutrition and hunger, climate change, violence against women, discrimination against women and indigenous girls, the spread of HIV/AIDS, the exploitation and use of women and children in mining areas, forces and groups armed forces as well as the massive displacements of populations following the multiple wars that occurred in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Indeed, everything started from the most common example in Kivu: “a banana tree responsible for its production, its leaves but unfortunately threatened by enormous bad weather (violent wind, climate change, soil infertility, erosion, etc.) ». In such circumstances, local and indigenous knowledge from Kivu advocates the use of a tree pillar to support the banana tree, protect it and prevent it from falling with all its production. Locating women, young girls and children vulnerable and indigenous people of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo facing violence, the negative impacts of climate change and to the precarious means of subsistence of which these categories of vulnerable people remain victims, PIFEVA will be created to play the function of a humanitarian and development PILLAR in favor of indigenous and vulnerable women, children and young people and local communities of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
